Who we are
Car Genies is a business registered in Ireland and based in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. Car Genies is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. If you have any question about your data, email hello@cargenies.io.
What we collect, why, and how long we keep it
When you use the questionnaire or Rate-a-car
We collect the answers you give, such as your budget, how far you drive, and what you need a car for. We use them to show you your results. We don't ask for your name. If you paste a car advert into Rate-a-car, that text is sent to our AI provider, Lovable AI, which processes it on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes. We keep these answers without anything that identifies you, and use them in total to improve our recommendations.
When you ask us to email you something
We collect your email address, what you asked for, which car and page it came from, the time, and a record of what you ticked. We use this to send you what you asked for and to reply if you write back. Our legal basis is that it's needed to do what you asked. We keep it for 12 months, then delete it.
Car-buying tips (only if you tick the box)
If you tick the optional box, we'll occasionally email you car-buying tips. Our legal basis is your consent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we keep your address for this purpose until you unsubscribe.
Anonymous usage data
We record which pages are visited, which questionnaire steps are completed, which site you came from, and your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop). To count visits, we create a coded identifier from your IP address and browser type. It changes every day, can't be linked across days, and we never store your IP address itself. This data doesn't identify you and doesn't use cookies. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it. We keep it for 13 months.
Preventing abuse
We use the same daily coded identifier to limit how often forms can be submitted, to stop spam. These records are deleted within 48 hours. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.
When you email us
If you write to hello@cargenies.io, we keep your message and address to deal with it, and delete them within 12 months.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with car dealers, sellers or advertisers. We use these providers to run the service, and they only process data on our instructions:
- Lovable Cloud: website hosting and data storage (Ireland, EU)
- Lovable Email: sending the emails you request
- Lovable AI: reading car adverts you paste into Rate-a-car
Transfers outside the EEA
Our hosting and database are in Ireland. Lovable AI may process the text you paste using model providers outside the EEA, under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy of it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@cargenies.io and we'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission at www.dataprotection.ie.
Children
Car Genies is not intended for anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
